ACCESS Foundation for School Mental Health
Support Student Wellness in Virginia Schools
The ACCESS Foundation for School Mental Health exists to help under-resourced and underserved school districts gain access to student mental health support, wellness resources, and school-connected services they may not otherwise be able to afford.
Through partnerships with Norfolk Public Schools and Chesapeake Public Schools, this initiative has the potential to support a combined student population of more than 67,000 students while also building a pathway for smaller districts to participate in the Student Assistance Program through underwriting, sponsorship, and philanthropic support.
Our Reach
Potential students reached through participating school districts.
Primary Focus
District Access
Helping underserved school systems access non-billable and non-clírical mental health supports.
What Funding Supports
District underwriting, student wellness kits, on-site school engagement, mental health resource distribution, and other non-billable supports that help schools participate in the Student Assistance Program.
Why access exists
Removing financial barriers to school-based mental health support
Many school districts want to provide stronger mental health support for their students but simply do not have the financial resources to implement programs at the level their students need. Budget limitations, competing priorities, and limited access to mental health professionals often prevent schools from expanding support services.
The ACCESS Foundation for School Mental Health was created to remove these barriers. Through philanthropic investment, corporate sponsorships, and community partnerships, ACCESS helps underwrite the non-billable and non-clinical services that make school-based mental health programs possible.
This allows underserved and underrepresented school districts to participate in the Student Assistance Program and provide students with resources that strengthen emotional resilience, coping skills, and access to early support.
How the model works
School
Schools identify the need for stronger student mental health support but may lack the funding to implement comprehensive services.
ACCESS Foundation
The foundation raises philanthropic and corporate funding that helps offset the cost of non-billable mental health supports and student wellness initiatives.
Community & Corporate Partners
Sponsors, foundations, and community partners invest in the initiative, helping expand access for districts that otherwise could not participate.
Students
Students receive access to wellness resources, outreach programming, and early mental health support—strengthening resilience and improving overall school well-being.
